Firefighters have managed to contain a large forest fire in the south of France. This was announced on August 7 in the prefecture of the Department of Education.

"The fire has been brought under control," a message on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

It is noted that evacuated residents are not allowed to return to their homes until the territory is fully explored. Firefighters continue to work in the area.

Earlier that day, BFMTV reported that a large fire in France had engulfed more than 16,000 hectares of vegetation in the Aude region in 24 hours. It was clarified that at least one person was killed as a result.

The newspaper Le Parisien reported on August 6 that a forest fire in the department of Aude in the south of France has become the largest in the republic for at least the last 20 years. The spread of the fire was facilitated by strong wind gusts on Tuesday evening, some of them reaching 60 km/h, as well as dryness on the ground and humidity levels of less than 25%.
