Three suspects suspected of involvement in the preparation of the coup were detained in Germany.

Special police units in Germany conducted searches at the alleged members of the group "Citizens of the Reich." This was reported on August 7 by Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR).

They are accused of belonging to a terrorist organization that intended to violently overthrow the state system in Germany. According to MDR, two of those arrested are residents of Chemnitz and the Ore Mountains, and the third suspect is from Bavaria.

It is specified that eight searches were carried out in three federal states: in Bavaria (Forchheim and Nuremberg-Land districts), in the Ore Mountains and Chemnitz (Saxony) and in the Eichsfeld district (Thuringia). The Bavarian State Criminal Police Department said that in April 2022, the suspects took part in a shooting exercise at a former Bundeswehr shooting range near Bayreuth in Upper Franconia.

Investigators believe that the training was aimed at preparing for a possible attack on the Bundestag.

The operation against extremists who planned to storm the Bundestag (German parliament) with the aim of a coup was carried out in December 2022. It was clarified that 3,000 police officers had searched more than 130 houses and apartments across the country since early morning. According to the federal Prosecutor's office, the group was created no later than the end of November 2021, a month after the parliamentary elections, which resulted in the Social Democrat Olaf Scholz becoming the new chancellor of Germany.

In November 2023, German law enforcement agencies conducted searches at several sites in eight federal states in connection with the investigation against the participants of the "Citizens of the Reich". Searches took place in Bavaria, Brandenburg, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Hesse, North Rhine—Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein.
