- The Netherlands has acknowledged the failure of the EU-Israel humanitarian aid deal for the Gaza Strip
The Netherlands has admitted that the Israeli authorities are not complying with the terms of the agreement that was concluded with the European Union (EU) in July to alleviate the humanitarian situation of the residents of the Gaza Strip. This was announced on August 7 by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country Kaspar Weldkamp.
"The Netherlands welcomed the deal concluded in July between the European Union and Israel. But unfortunately, the European Commission and our EU partners have informed us twice in recent weeks that Israel is not sufficiently implementing the agreements," he said during a debate in parliament. The broadcast was carried out on the website of the legislative body.
Weldkamp stressed that both the Israeli authorities and representatives of the Palestinian Hamas movement are responsible for delivering humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza.
After that, on August 6, the press service of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that, as part of cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan, Germany, Belgium and France, the Israeli military airlifted 107 humanitarian aid kits to the Gaza Strip.
On August 4, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported an increase to 180 people in the number of deaths from starvation amid the blockade of the Gaza Strip. It was clarified that 93 children were among the dead. Later, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said that Israel's refusal to provide for the citizens of the Gaza Strip could be qualified as a crime against humanity.
