US President Donald Trump ignored the visit of Swiss President Karin Keller-Zutter, who arrived in Washington to discuss plans to impose US import duties of 39%. This was reported on August 7 by the Tribune de Genève newspaper.

"Confederation President Karin Keller-Sutter and her vice President Guy Parmelin are returning from the United States without receiving anything from President Trump. He did not meet with them for even five minutes," the article says.

The newspaper clarifies that the Swiss president managed to hold talks with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, but this result was called "weak consolation" against the background of the lack of contact with Trump.

On the same day, it was reported that Switzerland intends to abandon the purchase of American F-35 and F-35A fighter jets against the background of the imposition of duties by Trump in the amount of 39% against the country.

On August 1, the American leader imposed additional duties on imported goods from the European Union and more than 60 foreign countries. The highest tariffs were imposed on goods from Laos, Myanmar (40% each) and Syria (41%). Also, goods from countries that have not concluded an agreement with the United States are subject to a duty of 10%.
