Cambodia has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution to resolving the conflict with Thailand. This was announced on August 7 by the country's Prime Minister Hun Manet.

"As the Prime Minister of Cambodia, I have submitted to the Norwegian Nobel Committee an official letter on the nomination of President Donald Trump for the noble Peace Prize," he wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

The Prime Minister noted that this step was taken in accordance with the wishes of the Cambodian people. He noted that in this way they expressed gratitude to Trump for his "initiative and support" in resolving the conflict.

Cambodia's intention to nominate Trump for the Nobel Prize for a truce with Thailand was reported by the Wall Street Journal on August 7, citing the country's Deputy Prime Minister, Sun Chantol. In an interview with the publication, Chantol clarified that without the intervention of the American leader, Cambodia and Thailand would not have been able to conclude an agreement on the cessation of hostilities between the countries.
