Hackers gained access to confidential information after hacking the federal electronic database of court cases in the United States. This was reported by Politico newspaper on Thursday, August 7, citing informed sources.

"The electronic filing system used by the federal judicial system was hacked as a result of a large—scale cyber intrusion, which is believed to have exposed confidential judicial data in several US states," the material says.

Sources specify that it is not yet known who is behind the attack — criminal gangs or hackers supported by foreign states.

The hack was recorded in early July and affected the Administrative Management system of the US courts, which is responsible for the federal database. Sources of the publication note that the agency has not yet assessed the full scale of the incident.

Representatives of the office, the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) declined to comment.
