The price of gold has exceeded $3,450 per troy ounce for the first time since the end of July, and quotations have risen by 25% since the beginning of 2025. The CEO of the service told Izvestia about this on August 7. Moneymatika.ru Maxim Molderf, noting that the price increase is due to a number of factors, including global instability and the actions of central banks.

According to the expert, the purchasing activity from central banks has noticeably increased. Countries, especially developing ones, are actively replenishing gold reserves and at the same time reducing investments in the dollar. An example is the Bank of Russia and the People's Bank of China. This is not just a reshuffle in assets, but a strategic decision amid declining confidence in the US currency.

"In the United States, the national debt is already approaching $37 trillion, and this is alarming even for their partners. The situation is aggravated by geopolitical risks and trade conflicts, from the United States to India and Brazil. All these events force investors to seek protection, and gold copes with this task better than other assets," Molderf said.

In addition, internal pressure on the dollar is increasing. There are signs of a slowdown in the American economy — employment is declining, and the Federal Reserve System may cut interest rates. This weakens the dollar and contributes to higher gold prices. The DXY index, reflecting the strength of the dollar, is falling, which in turn gives an impetus to an increase in the value of gold.

"The third important factor is inflation risks. Leading economies, including the United States and the EU, have so far been unable to cope with the consequences of the pandemic and military conflicts. Higher prices and instability in commodity markets make gold an attractive hedging tool for both private investors and large funds," Molderf said.

Over the past three years, gold has generated an average of 46% per annum, which is significantly higher than the profitability of most popular assets, including stocks and real estate. At the same time, gold retains its protective function and continues to attract investors.

Forecasts for 2025 are also optimistic: investment banks expect that the price of gold could reach $4,000 per ounce by 2026. Geopolitics, the actions of the Federal Reserve System, and demand from central banks will remain the main drivers of growth.

Molderf stressed that even if there is a temporary correction, this is not a reason to panic. On the contrary, it is a great opportunity for investors to enter the market at a lower price. In addition, according to the expert, many people use an averaging strategy, buying gold during recessions, which allows them to reduce the average purchase price and benefit in the long run.

"I recommend that investors keep at least 10% of their portfolio in gold. It is a reliable asset, resistant to inflation, geopolitical shocks and market fluctuations. Given the current situation, now is a very good time to enter the market. Especially if we consider physical gold: it won't depreciate, go bankrupt, or disappear from the system. This is an asset that has been proven for centuries," concluded Molderf.

On April 19, independent financial expert Andrey Barkhota told Izvestia about where to invest in 2025. In particular, according to him, the profitability of bank deposits may exceed 20% per annum. For example, an investment of 1 million rubles will bring the investor more than 200 thousand rubles of net profit per year.
