A case of embezzlement of 250 million rubles on defense orders was opened in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, law enforcement officers arrested employees of a commercial company who are accused of fraud in fulfilling a state defense order. This was announced on August 7 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC RF) Svetlana Petrenko.

"The illegal activities of five senior employees of a commercial chemical manufacturing company have been suppressed. The director of the organization, his deputy, the head of the planning and economic department, a senior economist and the chief accountant are accused of committing fraud on an especially large scale (part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," follows from the publication in the Telegram channel.

According to the press service of the ministry, from 2020 to 2025, contracts for the manufacture of products under a defense order were concluded between a commercial organization and a research enterprise.

It is specified that money was transferred to the supplier, including for paying salaries to employees. However, in order to steal funds, the entrepreneurs fictitiously employed other persons in their company who did not fulfill their duties, while distributing the accrued wages among themselves. The amount of stolen money amounted to more than 250 million rubles.

The court chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest. At the moment, law enforcement officers are identifying other participants in the criminal scheme.

Earlier, on July 17, the court sentenced the former deputy head of the Main Directorate of Innovative Development of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General Vladimir Shesterov, to six years in a penal colony in the case of embezzlement of Patriot Park funds. It was clarified that he was fined 500 thousand rubles. Before that, he pleaded guilty to embezzlement and entered into a pre-trial cooperation agreement with the investigation.
