The strongest magnetic storm in two months will hit the Earth on August 8.
The most powerful magnetic storm in the last two months is expected on Friday, August 8. This was announced on August 7 by the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS and the ISSF SB RAS.
"After the last recalculation, the models showed that the planet would be hit by the high—speed core of the cloud, and the impact on the magnetic field could be much stronger," the laboratory wrote in the Telegram channel.
It is noted that the magnetic storm will reach the Earth on the morning of August 8. According to the space weather scale, the event is rated as "average," but it can affect spacecraft and disrupt the propagation of radio waves.
"At the time of impact, the Kp geomagnetic index is projected to rise to a value of 6, which is the largest value since June 13," the laboratory added.
According to scientists, auroras in storms of this level are usually visible at latitudes close to Antarctica.
The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy also warned on August 6 that geomagnetic disturbances, the source of which will be a coronal hole, may begin on Earth on August 8. In addition, the speed of the solar wind near the Earth's orbit will reach about 600-700 km/s on Friday and Saturday.
