In the Irkutsk region, eight forest fires are being extinguished on an area of over 1 thousand hectares. This was announced on August 7 by the press service of the regional government.

According to the agency, firefighters have now been able to localize five fires on an area of 110.3 hectares in the Kirensky, Katanga and Ust-Kutsky districts. However, three fires are still active in the Bodaibinsky, Kirensky, Katanga districts on an area of 965 hectares.

"220 employees of forest fire brigades are taking part in the liquidation, 13 units of ground equipment are involved," the government's Telegram channel added.

On August 6, Deputy Minister of Ecology, Nature Management and Forestry of Yakutia Andrey Konoplev announced that 18 forest fires continue to operate in the republic on an area of 76.8 thousand hectares. He noted that over the past day, fires were extinguished on a total area of 5.54 thousand hectares.
