The expert spoke about ways to clean rusty tap water.
One of the main reasons why tap water turns red is the increased iron content in the composition. Metal in the form of Fe2⁺, when interacting with air, is oxidized to Fe3⁺, giving the liquid the appropriate color, said Andrey Dorokhov, associate professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry named after A.N. Reformatsky at the MIREA Russian Technical University, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».
"The most common option for water purification at home is ion exchange filters loaded with zeolites or synthetic resins that can effectively remove ferrous ions. Such devices require regular regeneration and maintenance, including monitoring the life of the filter material," he said.
In addition, a method is suitable for cleaning pollution, in which water is first saturated with oxygen, as a result of which iron becomes a precipitate. After that, the metal is removed using a conventional filter.
You can also resort to simpler methods, such as boiling water.
"After boiling, the water should be allowed to settle, then carefully drain it from the sediment or filter it through several layers of gauze or cotton wool. Additionally, you can let the raw water settle for 1-2 days before boiling — most of the iron will precipitate, mainly in the form of iron(III) hydroxides," the expert advised.
On May 19, Olga Rubleva, a doctor, told us how to choose the right drinking water. She also warned that its temperature plays an important role in the absorption of water: cold water is absorbed more slowly because the body warms it first. Warm water is absorbed faster, which makes it optimal for consumption in colds and other diseases.
