- Trump announced his intention to impose duties of 100% on imports of chips and semiconductors
The United States will impose duties of 100% on imported chips and semiconductors. This was announced on August 6 by the American leader Donald Trump.
"We will set a tariff of about 100% on microchips and semiconductors, but if you are building in the United States of America, there will be no duty — even if you have not yet started mass production, have not created a large number of jobs and so on," he said.
According to Trump, many companies are currently leaving their former locations and moving production to the United States.
On July 31, Trump signed a decree imposing additional tariffs of 50% on a number of imported goods containing copper. They affected semi-finished copper products, as well as derivative products with a high copper content. The national security interests are cited as the basis for such a decision.
