US President Donald Trump wants to meet personally with Russian President Vladimir Putin as early as next week. This was reported on August 6 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

"President Trump intends to meet personally with Russian President Vladimir Putin as early as next week," the publication said.

It is noted that, according to the plan of the American president, after the meeting of the two leaders, trilateral talks will be held between Trump, Putin and the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky.

"Only these three people will be present at the meetings, and no European colleagues will be present," the newspaper stressed.

At the same time, the NYT noted that Putin and Zelensky have not yet agreed to negotiations.

Earlier in the day, Trump called the meeting between Putin and his special envoy Steven Witkoff productive. The American leader announced great progress following these contacts.

Witkoff arrived in Moscow on the morning of August 6. During the visit, he met with Putin in the Kremlin. Their meeting lasted about three hours.

Later, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov shared that Witkoff and Putin discussed the conflict in Ukraine and the prospects for possible development of strategic cooperation between Russia and the United States. Some signals were transmitted from the Russian side, in particular on the Ukrainian issue. The relevant signals were also received from President Trump.
