The shooting at the Fort Stewart military base in Georgia, USA, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, was staged by a sergeant of the American army. This was reported on August 6 by the Fox News channel, citing an unnamed official.

"The suspect has been identified as a male sergeant in the U.S. Army. <...> His name has not yet been disclosed," the statement said.

It is specified that the shooter is in custody, he was detained at 11:35 a.m. (18:35 Moscow time). The lockdown was also lifted from the military base, flights are allowed over it. There is no threat to people in the area of the incident.

The shooting on the territory of the American military base Fort Stewart occurred earlier in the day. The base was blocked at 11:04 local time (18:04 Moscow time). The base administration noted that the situation remained stable during the attack. On the same day, it was reported that five American soldiers were injured as a result of the shooting. They were treated on the spot and then taken to Wynn Army Hospital for further treatment.
