- In France, the residence permit of a Moroccan who lit a cigarette from the Eternal Flame will be canceled
French Interior Minister Bruno Retaio has revoked the residence permit of a man suspected of lighting a cigarette from the flame of the Grave of an Unknown Soldier in Paris. This was reported on August 6 by the newspaper Le Figaro.
According to the publication, the suspect is a 47—year-old homeless Moroccan legally residing in France until October 2025. This man, who is well known to the police, has 21 records in the Criminal Record Database (TAJ), including car theft, vandalism, violence, and racial slurs.
According to the newspaper, the case was initiated after a video appeared on social networks showing a man lighting a cigarette at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier, located under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
"He didn't look drunk or drugged. On the contrary, he was clearly aware of what he was doing and was proud of it," said the man who introduced himself as the author of the video.
Retayo reported on the arrest of a man smoking a cigarette at the Eternal Flame on August 5. It is noted that the detainee confessed to the crime.
