US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with US Special Envoy Steven Witkoff after his visit to Moscow. His words were reported by the Reuters news agency on August 6.

The Secretary of State expressed the hope that some announcements would be made soon. According to the American Secretary of State, they can be both positive and negative.

"We'll talk about this later," Rubio added, answering a question about the entry into force of sanctions against Russia this week.

Witkoff arrived in Moscow on the morning of August 6. During the visit, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. Their meeting lasted about three hours. The meeting was also attended by Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

Later, Ushakov shared that Witkoff and Putin discussed the conflict in Ukraine and the prospects for possible development of strategic cooperation between Russia and the United States. Some signals were transmitted from the Russian side, in particular on the Ukrainian issue, and corresponding signals were also received from US President Donald Trump.
