- The political scientist compared the United States to a shark that has driven itself into a dead end because of Trump's actions.
Political scientist Rafael Ordukhanyan called the visit of US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow a necessary boon.
In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Wednesday, August 6, the political scientist noted that although it is not yet known what proposal Witkoff arrived in Moscow with and what initiatives the US president's special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, will bring to Kiev, one thing is obvious — the United States found itself in a difficult situation, which it largely created itself.
"And when a shark forces itself into a difficult situation, it begins to make incomprehensible movements: it can injure someone, bite someone," the expert noted.
According to him, Trump made a serious mistake by spoiling relations with almost all countries, including those with whom the conflict was unnecessary. He recalled that even the former permanent representative of the United States to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, despite her tough stance towards Russia, declared the inadmissibility of conflicts with everyone at once. In her opinion, if the United States opposes China, it is more reasonable to maintain normal relations at least with India, especially against the background of its growth as an electronics manufacturer.
Ordukhanyan noted that Trump had gone too far with tariffs and claims, having lost his sense of proportion. As a result, the American tariff policy is already damaging the United States itself. He also warned that manipulation of oil prices would lead to an increase in the cost of energy resources, including for Europe, which would cause a chain reaction throughout the economic chain. According to him, as a result, Trump risks being left without international support, even at the formal level.
Political analyst Ordukhanyan believes that Witkoff's visit to Moscow is an attempt by Trump to save his own position. According to him, if an agreement with Russia fails and sanctions begin, it will affect the United States itself.
The expert noted that if there is at least some realistic plan, Trump will be able to mitigate conflicts with other countries — India, Brazil and China — referring to the agreement with Russia. Thus, the visit looks more like a forced step to solve your own problems.
"These visits by his representatives, I hope, are to some extent an awareness of the impasse into which Trump has driven himself, but in general I have a pessimistic forecast," the political scientist concluded.
Earlier on August 6, it became known that Witkoff had arrived in Moscow. Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and Economic cooperation with foreign countries, met him at the airport. Later, Russian President Vladimir Putin received Witkoff at the Kremlin.
As the assistant to the head of the Russian state, Yuri Ushakov, noted, the conversation was "useful" and "constructive." 360.ru . The negotiations lasted about three hours, IA Regnum notes. The parties discussed the Ukrainian crisis and the prospects for strategic cooperation between Moscow and Washington. Life.ru . According to him, Putin received US signals on Ukraine from Witkoff and sent messages back to Trump, Moscow 24 notes. Kirill Dmitriev also participated in the meeting, writes NSN.
It was held behind closed doors. This is Witkoff's fifth visit to Russia. Earlier, the special envoy of the US president also met with Putin, the website writes kp.ru . The meeting was held on April 25. Ushakov said that the meeting helped to bring closer the positions of Russia and the United States on Ukraine and other international issues. He also called it symbolic that it took place on the 80th anniversary of the meeting of Soviet and American troops on the Elbe, RT notes.
