Popular care procedures on social networks can cause allergic reactions and lead to serious skin problems in teenagers. This is stated in the Science Daily article, which was reviewed by Izvestia.

In the first study on the risks of skin care in adolescents, scientists from Northwestern Medicine found that girls between the ages of seven and 18 use an average of six different skin care products, and some apply more than 10 products in a short time. These products often contain ingredients that can cause irritation and allergies. The cost of one care is on average $ 168 per month, and sometimes more than $ 500, while only 26% of care includes the necessary sunscreen, which, according to experts, is essential for skin health.

The study showed that popular videos contain an average of 11 active ingredients, which increases the risk of allergic contact dermatitis. This disease can limit the choice of cosmetics for life.

"A high risk of irritation arises both from the simultaneous use of several active ingredients, such as hydroxy acids, and from the unconscious repeated use of the same active ingredient, which was previously found in three, four, five different products," said researcher and board-certified dermatologist at the Department of Dermatology at the North Feinberg School of Medicine.- Western University, Dr. Molly Hales.

In one of the videos, a girl applied 10 different products to her face in six minutes, and, as shown in the study, she began to feel a burning sensation, and then she had a visible reaction on her skin.

"It's harmful when girls are so addicted to skin care. We set standards too high for them, which can negatively affect their mental and emotional state," Dr. Hales added.

Earlier, on April 16, Natalia Mikhailova, a cosmetologist and creator of the MESALTERA by Dr. Mikhaylova brand of professional cosmeceuticals, told Izvestia that mild cleansers should be used in the warm season: foams, gels or mousses with the addition of acids or enzymes.
