A court in the United States may close the Alcatraz Alligator prison due to a number of environmental violations during its creation. This was reported on August 6 by ABC News channel.

"Known for its reptiles inhabiting the nearby swamps, the migrant detention center called Alligator Alcatraz may be closed due to concerns about some lesser—known inhabitants of the area - bats, panthers and storks," the material says.

In addition, it is noted that migrant rights defenders claim that the detainees are in poor conditions of detention: they are in flooded rooms, eating spoiled food and have limited access to lawyers.

In May, US President Donald Trump announced that the famous Alcatraz prison on an island in San Francisco Bay would be restored and reopened on his orders. It was clarified that the updated Alcatraz would house the "most dangerous" criminals of the United States. According to the Axios portal, the American authorities can spend over $2 billion on the construction of a prison on Alcatraz Island.

Later, on August 6, NBC News reported that prisoners of the Alligator Alcatraz immigration prison in the US state of Florida staged a 10-day hunger strike against the conditions of detention. Human rights organizations have filed lawsuits against prison conditions, alleging violations of prisoners' right to legal aid, but the State denies this fact.
