Honored coach of Russia Valentin Lyubovitsky died at the age of 87. This was announced on August 6 in the Telegram channel of the Russian Cycling Federation.

He began his career in the field of physical education and sports in 1964, becoming a physical education teacher. From 1981 to 1995, Valentin Andreevich headed the specialized children's and youth sports school of the Olympic Reserve (SDYUSSHOR) in cycling, and then served as deputy director from 1995 to 1997. From 1997 to 2022, he worked as a coach and teacher at the Center for Physical Culture and Sports of the Moscow Federation of Trade Unions.

Lyubovitsky trained a number of athletes who became winners and prize-winners of National and international competitions, including Daria Shmeleva and Mikhail Yakovlev, who became multiple champions of Russia and winners of the world and European championships, as well as participants in the Olympic Games.

"Valentin Andreevich made a significant contribution to the development of cycling in Russia and Moscow, and enjoyed respect and authority among colleagues and athletes," the federation said in a statement.

Lyubovitsky's farewell will take place on August 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Moscow. The burial will take place at the Perepechenskoye cemetery in the Moscow region.
