Militants who were preparing an explosion in a church in Tartus province were detained in Syria.

The Syrian internal security forces have prevented an attempted bombing of a Christian church in Tartus province in the west of the country. Two militants were detained. This was reported by the SANA news agency with reference to a statement by the head of the provincial department of the Interior Ministry, Colonel Mohammed Abdel Al.

"We have received accurate intelligence information that a criminal group <...> was monitoring the church of the Holy Prophet Elijah in the village of Khreibat near Safita," the colonel said in a statement.

During the operation, two members of the terrorist cell were detained, an explosive device that they planned to install in the temple was seized, as well as leaflets with threats against local Christians.

The colonel stressed that the security forces that prevented the criminal conspiracy would not allow anyone to threaten the security and stability of the region.

On June 22, a terrorist attack took place in Damascus. The terrorist first opened fire on people in the church, and then detonated an explosive device. Later it was reported that there were two attackers. The next day, it was reported that the death toll from the explosion at a church in Damascus had increased to 25 people, and 63 more were injured.
