- A resident of the liberated Krasnogorovka in the DPR spoke about returning to a peaceful life
Life in the city of Krasnogorovka, Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), which was liberated in September 2024, is starting to improve. Ruslan, a resident of the village, told the Izvestia correspondent about this on August 6.
Krasnohorivka was previously one of the important strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). In July, electricity was brought to the city.
"There is a light in the city. It was connected just two weeks ago. The store is located in the city center and has opened. Another store was recently opened on Krug. Life is slowly getting better. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has been working all summer, dismantling houses where there were blockages. <...> The bus was allowed [to Donetsk], so far twice a week," Ruslan said.
According to him, more than 80 people now live in the city, while only 28 residents wintered there. A local resident noted that technical water is brought to the settlement from Donetsk once a week, and the services are also working on the delivery of bottled drinking water.
Another resident of Krasnogorovka, Alexander, said that all communications in the city were destroyed back in 2014.
"The last time water came from the tap [at home] was in 2014, before the shelling. As soon as the shelling started, the lights, gas, and water all went out at once. The city has ceased to exist. Everything is broken, all stations, all pumps, everything is completely broken," he recalled.
Pensioner Viktor Markovich told Izvestia that he had suffered both the occupation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the battles for the liberation of the city in Krasnogorovka. According to him, the Russian military liberated the city house by house. The man also noted that the Ukrainian militants had looted the settlement to the ground.
"They bullied, they took everything away, they took everything out. <...> Even the good gates [from the plots] were taken out," Viktor Markovich pointed out.
On September 10, 2024, the Russian Armed Forces liberated the village of Krasnogorovka. In March of this year, the head of the Donetsk city district, Alexei Kulemzin, said that the liberated Maryinka and Krasnogorovka in the DPR would sooner or later be restored. He also noted that when rebuilding cities, attention should be paid to the development of industrial enterprises, not just the residential sector.
