The Spanish government has decided to suspend the process of purchasing US-made F-35 fighter jets indefinitely. This was reported on August 6 by the newspaper El Pais, citing sources.

"The government approved a 10.4 billion euro plan in April last year and pledged to spend 2% of GDP on security and defense, but the decision to invest 85% of these funds in Europe is considered incompatible with the acquisition of an American model [fighter jets] as the flagship of combat aviation," the material says.

It is noted that this decision leaves the Spanish Navy in a difficult position, as they plan to decommission their Harrier AV8B fighters in 2030.

Extending their service life is excluded because they have been in service for almost half a century. The U.S. Marine Corps and the Italian Navy are also decommissioning their latest aircraft of this model, leaving the Spanish Navy as the only user without a spare parts market.

Bloomberg reported on July 31 that India is not interested in buying F-35 fighter jets. It was clarified that the Indian government is still considering the possibility of increasing purchases of American goods, but is unlikely to purchase additional defense equipment from the United States.
