Protest action in support of Hutsul and Popan takes place near the prison in Chisinau

A rally was held in Chisinau in support of the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, and activist of the Shor party, Svetlana Popan. Footage of the August 6 event appeared at the disposal of Izvestia.

"In indignation, the residents of Chisinau went out in the morning to protest at the prison <... >, where they express their dissatisfaction with the decision that was announced yesterday against Evgenia Gutsul," said Yuri Vitnyansky, a representative of the Victory bloc.

According to the representative of the bloc, such actions occur spontaneously, but the residents of Gagauzia, who learned about the action, also decided to participate in the protest. Vitnyansky expressed the opinion that residents who disagree with the decision will protest outside the prison for many more days to support the Hutsul.

The footage shows that residents are standing outside the building with banners that say "Let's defend Svetlana", "Hutsul is the voice of the people", "Hutsul is us! We are fighting for her freedom", "We are fighting for Svetlana Popan".

On August 5, Hutsul was sentenced to seven years in prison for allegedly financing the Shor party. A protest rally was held in front of the courthouse in her support. The head of Gagauzia expressed great support from the people of the autonomy. Natalia Bayram, the lawyer of the head of Gagauzia, stressed that until the verdict comes into force, Hutsul will be in a penitentiary, which has long been famous for the terrible conditions of detention of convicts.
