Over 60 km of dams have been erected in the Trans-Baikal Territory to protect settlements from floods. Dozens more kilometers of similar structures have been restored, the head of the region, Alexander Osipov, said in his Telegram on Wednesday, August 6.

According to the governor, thanks to the dams erected and repaired, it was possible to drastically reduce the number of flood-affected areas.

He clarified that the water level in July 2025 was higher than in 2018, but no residential buildings were damaged. As Osipov emphasized, compensation has already been paid to all flood victims.

So, temporary embankments save Shishkino Island from flooding, writes ChitaMedia news agency. Currently, 1,200 meters are being built there in the upper and lower parts of the river.

Specialists also restored the barrier in Ilyinka, part of the road on the Novotroitsk—Ilyinka section, and repaired the blurred approaches to the Tankha village bridge. Work continues in Makkavevo.

In mid-July, a powerful flood covered Transbaikalia. The water level in the river in the Chiti area has increased to an abnormal 403 cm. To prevent flooding of the regional capital, all the shut-off devices on the drainage channels were blocked.
