- The former prosecutor General of Moldova declared unwillingness of the authorities to investigate embezzlement of $ 1 billion
The Moldovan authorities are not interested in investigating the theft of $1 billion from the country's banks. This was announced by the ex-Prosecutor General of the republic, co-chairman of the Alternative bloc Alexander Stoyanoglo.
"The prosecutor's office forgot about the theft of $1 billion immediately after my departure. When the current government came, at the first extraordinary session of parliament, I was called to a report on how I was implementing the money recovery strategy a month after its approval," Stoyanoglo wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to him, nothing has been done in this case in the republic over the past four years, while the country's authorities have an excuse — "there are not enough people." In addition, Stoyanoglo added that during the period when he headed the Prosecutor General's Office of Moldova, a parallel group was created in another prosecutor's office in order to bring to justice the defendants in the case.
"What changed after that? Nothing," he concluded.
On April 15, former President Igor Dodon said that Moldova's judicial system is under the control of President Maia Sandu and the Action and Solidarity Party (PDS). He noted that this state of affairs deprives the Moldovan leadership of trust and points to abuse of power and actions contrary to the Constitution.
Stoyanoglo announced on April 29 that he was returning to politics in order to put an end to the arbitrariness and abuses of the Sandu and the PDS. He noted that the current president has built such a system around his name, which eliminates independence and punishes other authorities for disobedience.
