- SZ pointed to the tough attitude of the new Polish president towards the EU and Ukraine
The new president of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, takes a tough stance on the European Union (EU) and Ukraine. This was reported on August 5 by the German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung (SZ).
"So far, Navrotsky has positioned himself to the right of his predecessor Andrzej Duda and is behaving more harshly," the publication says.
The new head of state demands from Kiev that the crimes committed during the Volyn massacre be recognized, as well as an investigation into the matter. At the same time, he intends to continue to provide support to Ukraine.
At the same time, Navrotsky is also critical of Germany.
"Anti-German slogans are part of the standard repertoire of the right—wing nationalist Law and Justice party, which supported this hitherto little-known 42-year-old politician," the newspaper notes.
The Polish president opposes the EU migration pact, which he calls imposed by Germany.
On July 31, Karol Navrotsky, in a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, demanded a change in approach to the issues of common history that are important to Poles. The head of Poland stressed that historical issues will continue to be the subject of discussions with Kiev in the future.
On July 1, the Supreme Court of Poland approved the results of the presidential election and recognized the legitimacy of Karol Nawrocki's victory. It is specified that the inauguration ceremony of the president of the country should take place on August 6, 2025.
