US President Donald Trump will host the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia at the White House to try to conclude a peace treaty between the countries after the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was reported on August 5 by The Washington Post (WP), citing sources.
"President Donald Trump will host the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House on Friday, trying to conclude a peace agreement between the two countries that have been involved in conflict for decades," the newspaper noted.
According to the newspaper, this meeting is one of the examples when Trump intervenes in conflicts between countries to try to resolve them.
Earlier, on July 19, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Baku and Yerevan are very close to signing a peace treaty. According to him, the text can be initialed in advance. At the same time, the Azerbaijani leader noted that initialing the document does not mean signing it.
On July 10, Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met and exchanged views on key aspects of the peace agenda. It was clarified that they had reached an understanding to continue negotiations in the working groups and at higher levels. The Armenian Foreign Ministry called their meeting effective.
