To determine when to harvest apples, you need to look at the color of the stone, Vladimir Vikulov, an agronomist and agricultural specialist, told Izvestia.
The season of summer apple varieties, which are usually eaten fresh, is in full swing, the expert noted.
"The season of medium and late-ripening varieties will begin in September. The main thing here is not to make a mistake with picking fruits if you plan to store them," he said.
To determine whether it's time to harvest the fruit, the expert recommended cutting the apple and looking at the color of the seeds. If they are white or light cream, then it is too early to harvest.
"If part of the seed has darkened and the rest is still light, then this is the best time to carefully harvest the fruits and store them in the refrigerator. If the seeds have completely darkened, then the apple will not be stored for a long time," the specialist said.
If it is not possible to store apples in a cool place, it is better to make jam or jam from them, he added.
