Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Hiroshima, called on the world to learn lessons from what happened. The politician told Izvestia about this on August 6.

"At that time, no one really realized the terrible consequences of using these atomic bombs. Today, 80 years later, we know that these atomic bombs don't just kill, they destroy life," he said.

Lindemann stressed that modern nuclear weapons are currently particularly dangerous. The deputy also drew attention to new provocations by the United States.

"Therefore, we must do everything possible not to forget what happened back then. We must remember that the world will become safer in the future, and that no one will ever use nuclear weapons again," the politician said.

He also stressed the importance of Russia's participation, as one of the winning countries, in commemorative events on the occasion of the bombing of the city.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Foreign Ministry spoke about the response to the actions of the NATO bloc to strengthen the role of nuclear weapons. Russia is carefully assessing the situation and assumes that the whole essence of NATO's military activities is aimed at preparing for a possible military clash with the Russian Federation, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko summed up.
