Reuters has learned of Epstein's accomplice's refusal to publish testimony in court.
Ghislaine Maxwell, a former girlfriend and accomplice of American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted in 2021, opposed the government's request to publish the transcripts of the grand jury that indicted her. This was reported on August 5 by the Reuters news agency, citing a defense statement.
"In a court filing, Maxwell's lawyers indicated that publishing the materials would jeopardize a possible retrial if she could convince the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the verdict," the publication says.
It is noted that the American leader Donald Trump had previously instructed U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to release the materials of the grand jury meeting in the Epstein and Maxwell cases. Thus, the head of state seeks to reduce the level of discontent among supporters of both the Republican and Democratic parties, who are not satisfied with the situation with the documents in these cases.
On August 5, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer sent subpoenas to the U.S. Department of Justice to testify to former President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary, as well as other high-ranking officials. In addition, former directors of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey and Robert Mueller, as well as former U.S. Attorneys General Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions and Alberto Gonzalez will have to testify.
Earlier, on July 19, Trump asked the US Department of Justice to release all available testimony from the jury in the Epstein case. However, later, on July 23, the Florida court rejected this request, in connection with which Trump expressed his dissatisfaction on July 28. The US president was annoyed by the mistakes made by the White House in this matter.
