Paris police detained a man who was smoking a cigarette at the Eternal Flame at the Arc de Triomphe. This was announced on August 5 by French Interior Minister Bruno Retaio.

Grave Grave of the Unknown Soldier, lighting a cigarette from the flame of the memorial, was arrested in Paris for desecrating the burial site, grave, urn or monument erected in memory of the dead," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

It is noted that the detainee confessed to the crime. The person involved in the case will be brought to justice.

Earlier, on June 21, German activists desecrated graffiti by artist Dmitry Vrubel depicting a fraternal kiss between General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU Leonid Brezhnev and head of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) Erich Honneker. It is noted that in the image, also known as "Lord! Help me survive in the midst of this mortal love" and "Brotherly kiss", a slogan appeared calling for an end to the genocide. It is assumed that this action could have been carried out as part of protests against the crisis in the Gaza Strip.
