The president of Mexico spoke about the refusal to send US troops into the country.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum refused the proposal of the American leader Donald Trump to send US troops to the country to fight drug cartels. The politician announced this during a press conference on August 5.
"As I have already told you, President Trump did offer to send American troops in one of the phone conversations, I told him no, that this was not up for discussion, and he understood," she said.
Sheinbaum added that the US representatives may insist on the proposed option, but this topic will not even be amenable to discussion.
At the same time, the Mexican president proposed alternative forms of cooperation, such as information exchange "based on respect for the sovereignty of our countries."
Earlier, on March 6, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said that the United States is not currently considering the option of sending troops to Mexico. At the same time, he noted that the recognition of Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations would allow "using all the resources of the armed forces to strengthen border control."
