Four people were killed when a reconnaissance plane crashed in northern Algeria.
Four people were killed in the crash of a light-engine reconnaissance aircraft at Jijel Ferhat Abbas airport in northern Algeria. This was reported on August 5 by the newspaper Echorouk, citing the country's civil defense department.
"As a result of the downing of a Zlin reconnaissance aircraft belonging to the civil defense at Ferhat Abbas airport in the wilayet [province] Jijel, four people who were performing their professional duties died during the training mission," the newspaper quoted the ministry as saying.
The crash occurred during a training mission. It is specified that the commander of the air group, the trainee pilot, the instructor of the aviation school and the manager of the Tractor aviation company were killed in the crash. The head of the Civil Defense Department, Colonel Boualem Bouglaf, expressed his condolences and offered support to the families of the victims.
The causes of the incident were not disclosed.
Earlier, on July 30, seven people died in a plane crash in the jungles of the Venezuelan state of Amazonas. According to the country's Defense Minister, Vladimir Padrino Lopez, the co-pilot of the aircraft was among the dead. According to the Governor of Amazonas State, Miguel Rodriguez, there were at least 10 people on board, including representatives of the Yanomama indigenous people, medical staff and crew members. The plane was flying from the city of Puerto Ayacucho to the remote settlement of Parima B in the municipality of Alto Orinoco.
