The program for the development and implementation of energy-saving cell structures, which has been carried out since 2017, has saved more than 2.5 billion kWh of electricity. This was reported by the press service of Rusal.

5,500 electrolyzers at the company's five aluminum plants have already been converted to energy-efficient structures.

By the end of 2024, the annual energy savings due to the implemented structures exceeded 500 million kWh for the first time.

Energy-saving designs of electrolyzers were developed by the RUSAL Engineering and Technology Center, which was established in 2002 on the initiative of Oleg Deripaska, the founder of Rusal, and became a research center for the aluminum industry. Other important ITC developments include inert anodes and high-ampere models of electrolyzers.
