The second flare of the penultimate power class, M4.4, occurred on the Sun during the day. On August 5, it was reported on the website of the E.K. Fedorov Institute of Applied Geophysics.

"At 18:53 Moscow time, an M4.4 flash lasting 12 minutes was registered in the X—ray range in the group of spots 4168 (N03W08)," the report says.

In the morning, an outbreak of class M1.2 was recorded in the same area, its duration was 30 minutes.

According to scientists, solar activity is estimated as moderate. Currently, there are five active groups of spots on the visible disk. The largest dynamics is shown by group 4168, where there is an increase in the area to 90 million hemispheric lobes (MD) and a complex magnetic configuration.

The disturbance of the geomagnetic field at high latitudes is also recorded. According to the observations of Russian stations, the k-indexes remain elevated between 06:00 and 18:00 Moscow time. So, at the station in Barentsburg, the values reached 4 points, in Tiksi — up to 4, in Moscow and Dixon — up to 3.

Experts continue to monitor space weather against the background of increased activity in the solar atmosphere.

The day before, two strong Class M flares occurred on the Sun. According to scientists, the duration of the M2.0 outbreak was 13 minutes, and the duration of the M1.4 outbreak was 16 minutes.
