In Dresden, about 17,000 people will be evacuated due to a discovered World War II bomb, the largest evacuation in the city's history. This was reported on August 5 by the Suddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) newspaper.

"During the mine clearance of the destroyed Karola Bridge in Dresden, another bomb from the Second World War was discovered," the article says.

The explosive device has a mass of 250 kg and was manufactured in the UK. In addition, the projectile is equipped with a detonator. According to local police, the shell will be defused on the morning of August 6.

The evacuation zone covers a part of the center of Dresden on both banks of the Elbe. The city authorities will arrange emergency accommodation at the exhibition center. According to the publication, local residents must leave the territory no later than 09:00 (10:00 Moscow time) on August 6.

Earlier in the day, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced the discovery of a British MC 1000lb Mks I aerial bomb from World War II at a construction site in Belgrade. The weight of the projectile was about 500 kg, of which about 220 kg was explosive. The aerial bomb is planned to be defused on August 9.
