Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, stressed in an interview with Izvestia the importance of Russia's participation in commemorative events dedicated to the Second World War.

"We must do everything possible not to forget what happened then <...> And, of course, it is important that Russia, as one of the victorious countries in World War II, take part in these commemorative events," Lindemann said.

He noted that one should not forget about the people who died as a result of the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki 80 years ago in order to prevent the reuse of nuclear weapons.

"Unfortunately, today there are provocations from the United States again — when we hear that they want to send nuclear submarines, which does not contribute at all to security in the world," the deputy stressed.

On August 2, The Daily Telegraph reported that US President Donald Trump had begun climbing the "ladder of nuclear escalation" by announcing the redeployment of American nuclear submarines. It was noted that some nuclear armed vessels are likely to already be located around Russia.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
