Two Ukrainian Armed Forces militants were sentenced to 15 and 16 years for attacking the Kursk region.

Two militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Alexander Chumak and Mikhail Prots, were sentenced to 15 and 16 years in prison for participating in the attack on the Kursk region. This was announced on August 5 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko.

The Main Military Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has collected all the evidence to convict the defendants of committing a terrorist act in the Kursk region (paragraphs "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code). Prots and Chumak served in the military unit A-4640 (25th separate assault Battalion) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was established that on January 25 of this year, Chumak, armed with an AK-74 assault rifle and ammunition, together with Prots and other colleagues, illegally entered the vicinity of the village of Guevo in the Sudzha district.

"Their criminal goal was to block the village and keep it under armed control. On the same day, during the fighting, Chumak and Prots were detained by servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and handed over to the investigation," the department's Telegram channel says.

The court sentenced Chumak and Proce to 15 and 16 years in prison, respectively. They will spend the first three years in prison, and the other part of the term in a high—security penal colony.

The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation announced on July 28 that Rodrigo Christian Carvallo, a mercenary from Paraguay who fought on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, was sentenced in absentia by the Second Western District Military Court to 24 years of strict regime. He must serve the first four years in prison.
