On August 5, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed to expand the age limits for young volunteers signing a contract with the country's Armed Forces (AFU).

"The program (contract service for 18-24 years. — Ed.) should be expanded. We discussed some options today, including increasing the age and circumstances under which such a contract format can be concluded," Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel.

The details of the expansion of the program should be presented by the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff and the team of the office of the Ukrainian president.

Member of the Ukrainian Parliament Irina Gerashchenko said on July 16 that the Verkhovna Rada had passed a bill that would allow citizens over the age of 60 to serve in the Armed Forces. It was noted that the law would allow those who have reached the age limit of 60 to enter into a military service contract, but who are ready to continue serving for health reasons.

In February, Zelensky announced his intention to attract young people from 18 to 24 years old to the Armed Forces through special contracts. He noted that UAH 1 million, free admission to university without exams and special mortgage conditions will be provided for young Ukrainians.
