Finland has expelled 90 Russians since the beginning of 2025
From January to June 2025, Finland expelled 90 Russian citizens, 16 of whom left the country under escort. This was reported on August 5 by the Iltalehti newspaper, citing data from the National Police Department.
"In January–June of this year, the police deported 1,374 people from Finland... In the same period last year, 1,043 people were deported from Finland. If the pace continues in the second half of the year, a total of 2,748 people will be deported from Finland this year," the article says.
It is specified that citizens of Estonia, Romania and Iraq were most often among those expelled. The main reason for the deportation was the lack of a residence permit.
On July 18, the Latvian authorities demanded that Russian citizens who had not applied for permanent residence status in the European Union (EU) leave the country. The residence permit has expired for 841 Russian citizens residing in Latvia. It was clarified that Russians who previously had permanent residence in the republic had until June 30 to submit documents for requesting permanent EU resident status, including confirmation of passing the Latvian language exam.
