US President Donald Trump has announced that Washington will soon impose new tariffs on semiconductors and microchips. He said this on August 5 in an interview with CNBC.

"We are going to announce duties on semiconductors and microchips, because we want them to be manufactured in the United States," the American president stressed.

According to him, a corresponding statement will be made "about next week."

On July 31, Trump signed a decree imposing additional tariffs of 50% on a number of imported goods containing copper. They affected semi-finished copper products, as well as derivative products with a high copper content. The national security interests are cited as the basis for such a decision.
