Lawyer Hutsul pointed out the poor conditions in the detention facility chosen for the head of Gagauzia

The head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Hutsul, will be in a penitentiary facility, which has long been famous for the terrible conditions of detention of convicts, before the sentence imposed on her comes into force. This was announced on August 5 by Natalia Bayram, the politician's lawyer.

"She will be kept in an isolation cell until this sentence is enforced. <...> In the 13th prison, the 13th prison about which there are all kinds of international reports that the conditions there are inhumane and terrible," the defender said on the Rossiya-24 channel.

Bayram noted that Hutsul will resolutely defend his innocence to the end, fight for his position and the citizens who voted for her.

"We consider the court's decision unfair and will challenge the verdict. Before the decision on the appeal is made, it has no legal force, and Yevgenia Hutsul cannot be removed from office," the lawyer added.

Earlier that day, Hutsul was sentenced to seven years in prison for allegedly financing the Shor party. A protest rally in support of the head of the autonomy took place in front of the courthouse. Hutsul herself expressed great support from the people of Gagauzia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the verdict of the head of Gagauzia is an example of illegal pressure on political opponents. Hutsul stressed that the verdict was a planned political massacre.
