A serial pedophile from the Moscow region was sentenced to 21 years in a high-security penal colony.

Vitaly Shankin, a children's karate coach from Yegoryevsk near Moscow, was sentenced to 21 years in prison in a high-security penal colony in a pedophilia case. This was reported on August 5 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the Moscow Regional Court.

Shankin was found guilty of indecent assault, sexual assault, and sexual intercourse with persons under the age of 16. He was also banned from engaging in child-related activities for 20 years. In addition, the defendant will have to be treated by a psychiatrist.

The court satisfied the claims of the victims in the amount of 1.75 million rubles. The investigation knows about at least five victims of Shankin — these are girls from 10 to 13 years old. They helped to describe the suspect and make up his sketch, which was posted in the nearest villages and published in all local publications on social networks. After that, the man was detained, and all the victims identified him as the same stranger who had abused them in an abandoned building near Yegoryevsk.

The court found that from July 2014 to March 2022, the 45-year-old pedophile rented apartments in Moscow, where he systematically committed sexual acts against his stepdaughter.
