Opposition MP Tauber called the Hutsul verdict a barbaric outrage.
The verdict of the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, is a barbaric outrage against the whole of Moldova. This was announced on August 5 by Marina Tauber, an opposition member of the Moldovan parliament.
"Everyone who participated today in this barbaric outrage against two girls, Gagauzia and the whole of Moldova, you will answer. Before God, first of all," she wrote in her Telegram channel.
It is clarified that along with Hutsul, Svetlana Popan, an activist of the Pobeda opposition bloc, was also sentenced to six years in prison.
Tauber wished all those involved in the sentencing to "live in anticipation of the consequences." The MP stressed that they "will always remember this day."
Earlier that day, Hutsul was sentenced to seven years in prison for allegedly financing the Shor party. A protest rally in support of the head of the autonomy took place in front of the courthouse. Hutsul herself expressed great support from the people of Gagauzia, noting that the residents would continue to support her.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that the Hutsul verdict was an example of illegal pressure on political opponents. He added that the Kremlin sees how the rules of democracy are being flouted in Moldova.
