Zakharova called the Hutsul verdict a disgrace and a disaster that attacked Moldova.

The verdict handed down to the head of the Gagauz Autonomy, Evgenia Gutsul, is a disgrace and a disaster that has attacked Moldova. This was announced on August 5 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"This is not just a disgrace, it is an attack, a disaster that has attacked Moldova and its people," she wrote on the Telegram channel.

Zakharova stressed that Moldovan President Maia Sandu throws people in prison for following the law.

Earlier that day, Hutsul was sentenced to seven years in prison in the case of allegedly financing the opposition Shor party. A protest rally in support of the head of the autonomy took place in front of the courthouse. After the announcement, the Hutsul declared its support for Gagauzia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Hutsul's sentence an example of illegal pressure on political opponents. The head of Gagauzia herself, in turn, stated that the verdict was a planned political massacre.
