The governor of the Kamchatka Territory, Vladimir Solodov, demanded the resignation of the head of the city of Vilyuchinsk, Igor Golovchak, amid the discontent of local residents. He announced this on August 5 in his Telegram channel.

According to Solodov, after the earthquakes in the region, the number of complaints against the city administration from local residents increased dramatically. The governor noted that he had visited social facilities, private households and a temporary accommodation facility in Vilyuchinsk and "was personally convinced of the fairness of the residents' claims."

"I consider the current work of the city administration <...> unsatisfactory. As a result of the detour, he demanded the resignation of the head of the city, Igor Golovchak," the head of the region said.

On July 30, a powerful earthquake of magnitude 8.7 occurred in the Kamchatka Territory. A tsunami threat was declared on the coast of the Avacha Bay. Emergency regimes were declared in the North Kuril region of the Sakhalin region and in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. According to the Kamchatka Ministry of Health, one person was injured.
