Patrushev noted the efforts of the United Nations to assist landlocked countries

On August 5, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev spoke at the plenary session of the Third United Nations (UN) Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

So, during the session Patrushev voiced Russia's proposals to overcome the difficulties caused by the lack of direct access to the sea by such countries. He outlined a number of key challenges for such countries: logistics, food security, and water resources.

"The Russian Federation highly appreciates the efforts of the United Nations to assist landlocked countries. For our part, we reaffirm our commitment to developing international relations in the spirit of partnership. With the participation of the United Nations, we are ready to share our experience in overcoming the difficulties associated with ensuring equal trade and economic conditions for all countries," said the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the solution of logistical issues is possible, first of all, by building sustainable logistics chains. Russia has significant transit potential and consistently advocates active international cooperation on the development of transport corridors.

He noted that Russia's main transport corridor is East–West, which provides seamless connections between ports near the Pacific Ocean and China, Mongolia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, as well as the Baltic and Black Seas. At the same time, the North–South corridor is actively developing, which connects Russia with the countries of Central and South Asia, the Persian Gulf and East Africa, affecting many landlocked countries.

The answer to the challenge of food security should be the removal of barriers to international trade in agricultural products, Patrushev stressed. According to him, Russia is one of the key exporters of food, including grain, vegetable oils and fish. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed our country's readiness to increase food supplies to the global market, share with partners the experience of using advanced technologies in the agricultural sector and help with the training of professional specialists.

Dmitry Patrushev also said that our country pays special attention to the condition of water bodies and their rational use. Thus, Russia has an effective water management system, and the basins of 70 rivers are transboundary. Work on them is coordinated within the framework of intergovernmental agreements.

In addition, during the plenary session, the Deputy Prime Minister spoke about how Russia is building a dialogue within the framework of the Tehran Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.

On May 30, Patrushev said that it was necessary to continue opening new markets for the development of Russian grain exports. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the prospects for increasing exports should also be viewed through the prism of expanding logistics capabilities. To do this, first of all, the development of the port infrastructure continues.
