The German Embassy told about the increased sanctions pressure on Russia
Berlin intends to work with Slovakia to convince it to support sanctions against Russia, the German Embassy in Moscow told Izvestia.
"Federal Chancellor [Friedrich] Merz expressed his gratitude to Slovakia for its willingness to support the sanctions package. In the future, we will continue to cooperate constructively with Slovakia in order to jointly increase the EU's sanctions pressure on Russia," the German diplomatic mission in Russia told Izvestia.
Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he would block the next package of EU sanctions. In July, Bratislava opposed the adoption of the 18th list of measures against Russia. Slovakia used this lever to put pressure on the European Commission to maintain Russian gas supplies. However, on July 18, Bratislava supported the introduction of restrictions, accepting guarantees from Brussels in the field of energy security.
