Russian swimmer Kliment Kolesnikov, who won a gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, spoke on August 4 about his impressions of the competition.

"Initially, I didn't want to look at the scoreboard because the result was not very good, but when I saw that my result exceeded all my expectations, I was glad. Another gold in the piggy bank, plus the first medal from the World Long Water Championships," Kolesnikov told Izvestia.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated swimmer Kliment Kolesnikov on his victory in the 50 m backstroke at the World Aquatics Championships. The Head of State stated that the athlete had demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and the highest class of skill.

On August 3, Kolesnikov won the gold medal in the 50 m backstroke. The Russian became the world champion with a score of 23.68 seconds and set a World Cup record.
